How have you been talking to yourself lately?
Have you been gentle, patient and compassionate with yourself? Or have you been your harshest critic, dwelling on the negative and beating yourself up?
For the next few days, become aware of your self-talk.
Is your inner dialogue filled with “Shoulds” and “Should nots”?
Do you catch yourself thinking that you are not talented enough to learn the local language, or outgoing enough to make many friends in your new location?
Do you sometimes question whether you are even cut out for the expat life?
Make a note of what triggers your Inner Critic. When does it become most active?
For now, just notice and observe. On Wednesday, I will start a series of posts on how to deal with an over-active Inner Critic.
